A favorite passage of mine: 1 Peter 1:6-7 “In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith–more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire–may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
You, me, your parents, all believers everywhere, can relate to this passage. It speaks of trials of varying degrees and it speaks of the mandatory refinement process the Lord requires us to undergo, so that our faith, only after testing, is to be found genuine.
A point sometimes overlooked is the value placed on faith itself in this process. It is MORE PRECIOUS THAN GOLD. Faith is more precious than our homes, jobs, vehicles, jewelry, anything material that perishes. More precious than a financial legacy handed down the generations. Don’t get me me wrong: all those things are precious to a degree. But MORE PRECIOUS is our FAITH.
When trials come upon us, we who believe can take comfort knowing that God has our backs. He has already given us exactly what we need to overcome, to be Overcomers. He has already given us courage and patience, strength and perseverance, in just the right measure. The Holy Spirit prompts us in just the right ways when we walk in Him and are attuned to Him. The Lord asks us to recognize this and find His purpose in all our trials.
Our legacy, the legacy of all Christians is to be faith. The peace that comes with knowing Jesus through faith, the practice of obeying His Word and implanting His truths in the soil of men and nations–this is a Commissioned Christian’s legacy.
PTL. Let’s get to work! (A word prompted by an amazing family who is undergoing trial. Written while undergoing a trial of my own.)
